What inspired you to write this book?
It was 2006. My first husband and I were starting to dabble in real estate. We did a walk through on a dilapidated house in a nice neighborhood. It was really a sad site. The walk through was what inspired me to create this story.
Why did you want to become a writer?
I enjoy using words to help a reader empathize with a situation, whether it is emotional or with our senses.
What was the hardest part of creating this book?
The publishing process has been the most difficult by far!
What do you hope people gain from reading it?
I hope people are touched by the moral of the story and take a moment to be grateful for our surroundings.
When you were a kid, what were your favorite books?
When I was little, I loved Dr. Seuss because the stories were colorful and imaginative. I liked the rhymes. As I got older, I liked books like Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson. It shocked me. It's probably why I like to direct dramas in live theatre. It moved me emotionally.
Why should we buy your book?
Because I really really want you to! Seriously, it is a touching story. I think it opens the door for conversations with kids about being grateful and what is really important in our lives. Family values.
